My Video

As a studio art minor one of the classes that I chose to take was a multimedia arts class. As the semester comes to an end our projects are due soon. So yesterday I spent my entire day at the film lab at American University trying to create this video. I decided to collect shots and images from different designer advertisements, movies, and music videos to create the video. This video has parts from 2 Dior advertisements, an Elie Saab advertisement, a part from The Great Gatsby trailer, Wicked Games by The Weeknd, Pri-Madonna Girl by Marina and The Diamonds, and an advertisement for H&M. Your feedback is appreciated, so if there is anything wrong I could fix it before its due. I hope you like it!

Daily Obsessions

Sorry I haven’t posted in a few days, but this week has been hectic. I just submitted and presented my final paper as an undergrad (It was 37 pages). Submitting it is so relieving! So today I came across these Del Toro shoes that I love at Moda Operandi.

About Me – Part 2

Today I am not going to be writing about my daily obsessions, or my finds, or even fashion shows. Today I want the people reading this blog to get to know me better. On Monday I received my acceptance from Istituto Marangoni in Milan to study fashion design. At this point in my life I could not be more true to myself.

I am graduating from American University in Washington DC in three weeks with a major in Business administration, Marketing concentration and a minor in Studio Art. But all my life something has drawn me to fashion and the creative process behind it. How a piece being designed in Milan or Paris translates across languages and cultures and no matter your background you always try to look better. After graduating high school the wise thing to do for me at that time was study business, but during the course of my undergraduate degree I felt that I am ignoring my creative side and that I need an outlet because creativity is part of who I am. Therefore, I picked up my minor in Studio Art nevertheless there was still a void. And I impatiently waited to graduate from university so I can go pursue a career in fashion design. It may sound weird or crazy to people from my cultural background, that I want to be a fashion designer. Nevertheless, I can not imagine myself working in an industry other than the fashion/luxury industry. At this point with my acceptance I feel true to myself and on my way to achieve the dreams I have.

The Great Gatsby by Tiffany & Co.

Yesterday I mentioned how Brooks Brothers launched a line dedicated to The Great Gatsby. In the next few days Tiffany & Co.’s windows will be dedicated to the book and movie. In the meanwhile they are now selling their collection online. My most favorite pieces from the collection are: the head piece that gets converted to a brooch, the pearl tassel necklace, and the diamond beads and black spinel necklace. Here are all the pieces I liked:

Statement Pieces

A few weeks ago I walked into the Omega boutique in Saudi Arabia and I saw the new Aqua Bracelet by Omega. They bracelets stayed on my mind and a few days ago I decided to go ask about them here at the Washington DC boutique. I love these uni-sex bracelets because they are statements as well as having a classic quality. The Aqua Bracelet comes in two different materials rubber and leather. The majority of the bracelets are made out of rubber. Because of the rubber material the bracelet can be worn at all times.

Inspirations

Thinking of graduation gifts for myself. I was Inspired by Cartier’s lOVE bracelet. I personally love gifts that have sentimental value, also many people currently own the LOVE bracelet, therefore I am on a quest to create my own derivative of the product.I personally do not want the bracelets to look the same. Inspired by how the love bracelet locks by placing two screws on the side (see picture below). The first difference would be placing four locks rather than two (See the sketch below). Furthermore, I would like to carve the names of my parents and siblings onto it using Arabic calligraphy (See examples below).

Wishful thinking – The ability to split the bracelet into four different pieces will give me the opportunity to create pendents out of them, allowing me in the future to gift them to my children as pieces to always carry wear.

Statement Pieces

These are what I call statement necklaces, they go perfectly with a simple dress and they can easily go from formal day wear to evening. All three necklaces are by Gucci.

Graduation Gifts

I know I have been flooding my blog with graduation gift ideas, but this is the topic that everyone around me has been discussing. So yesterday a friend of mine called me saying that her parents want to get her a watch as a graduation present. She wants it to be classic but she also loves the ceramic with gold look. After so much search, the final options were a Chanel and a Chopard watch.

Melissa + Karl Lagerfeld

Melissa was made famous by it’s rubber shoes. It previously had collaborations with many designers such as Vivienne Westwood and Jason Wu. Yesterday they launched their new collection with Karl Lagerfeld.

On their website, Melissa wrote about the collection saying: “In fashion, don’t take anything too seriously. If you follow this piece of advice, you can free yourself up to play with different looks and bring together various references in a fresh way”.

Here are the looks from the collection but my favorite is the one with the ice cream cone.

Dita Von Teese’s 3D Printed Dress

This dress created by New York designer Michael Schmidt and architect Francis Bitonti is one of the first of its kind. The entire dress was created using 3D printers. The dress is made out of nylon and draped over a nude silk corset. The nylon is so flexible that it acts like a fabric. After hand-linking all the pieces together, the dress was incrusted with 12,000 crystals.
